Yes, Iowa, There Is a Future for Newspapers - Rick Green
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Rick Green was named president and publisher of the Des Moines Register in 2013 after serving previously as the paper's vice president and editor. A twenty-five year veteran of the Gannett Company, he is also the Regional President for Des Moines, Sioux Falls, St. Cloud and Iowa City. Green came to Des Moines from the Palm Springs (CA) Desert Sun, where he was executive editor and managing editor before that. He studied journalism at Ohio University and worked for several Ohio newspapers, including the Cincinnati Enquirer early in his career. Chamberlin Lecture in Journalism

Going Out in Style: The Folk Art of Fantasy Coffins - Eric Adjetey Anang
8:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Eric Adjetey Anang is Ghana's leading fantasy coffin artist and the grandson of Seth Kane Kwei, who helped found the folk art tradition. Unique to Ghana and more specifically to the Ga people, fantasy coffins are functional, customized coffins sculpted and painted to be figures or objects that represent the deceased. For example, a fisherman might have a coffin formed like a fish, or an airplane shape might symbolize someone who always hoped to travel. Ghanaian fantasy coffins are exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world and have been featured in National Geographic, on CBS Sunday Morning, and in several international documentaries. Eric Adjetey Anang will be an artist-in-residence in Iowa State University's Integrated Studio Arts Department, Sept. 15-19.

Where Does the Bible Come From? - Charles Bobertz
7:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Rev. Charles Bobertz is a professor of New Testament Theology at Saint John's School of Theology Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota. He holds degrees from the Harvard Divinity School and Yale University, and was ordained to the permanent diaconate in 1997. He is coeditor of Readings in Christian Communities: Essays on Interpretation in the Early Church and has taught scripture and early church history at St. Michael's College in Vermont and Loyola College in Maryland. Ethics, Integrity, and Civility in Higher Education: New Approaches to Foster a Culture of Trust - Neil Hamilton
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Neil Hamilton is the founding director of the Thomas Holloran Center for Ethical Leadership in the Professions at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis and nationally known for his work on academic freedom and academic ethics. The American Council on Education published his most recent book, Academic Ethics: Problems and Materials on Professional Conduct and Shared Governance. Hamilton is the former associate dean for academic affairs and had a private law practice prior to going into teaching. The Holloran Center seeks to address how higher education can most effectively foster the ethical professional formation of each student and practicing professional.

WHERE Am I Wearing? - Kelsey Timmerman
7:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Kelsey Timmerman, journalist and traveler, is the author of Where Am I Wearing? A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories, and People That Make Our Clothes. The book describes the connection between impoverished garment workers' standards of living and the all-American material lifestyle. His writing has appeared in publications such as the Christian Science Monitor and Condé Nast Portfolio and aired on NPR. He is also the author of Where Am I Eating? An Adventure Through the Global Food Economy. In an effort to connect people through stories and strengthen communities, Kelsey cofounded the Facing Project. Whether in print or in person he seeks to connect people around the world.

11:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Colin Jost is the head writer of Saturday Night Live and co-anchor of SNL's "Weekend Update." Since joining SNL nine years ago as one of the show's youngest ever writers, he's won three Writers Guild awards, a Peabody Award, and been nominated for nine Emmy awards. Jost has performed standup on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver's New York Stand Up Show, and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festivals in Montreal and Chicago. ISU AfterDark

Caucus Cup Debate: College Democrats v. College Republicans
8:00 PM – South Ballroom, Memorial Union - The ISU College Democrats will debate the College Republicans on an issue of the day for the chance at the Caucus Cup. The winner claims the trophy for a year and will defend the Cup at the 2015 debate. This year's issues will include gun control and voter identification laws. The judges are Jean Goodwin, Valerie Hennings and Peter Orazem. Jake Swanson will moderate. First Amendment Days

A One Health Approach to Mountain Gorilla Conservation - Michael R. Cranfield
5:00 PM – 2226 Vet Med Building - Michael Cranfield, DVM, is the project director of the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project, a non-profit dedicated to the care of mountain gorillas. Five years ago, the MGVP partnered with the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine to form Gorilla Doctors, which is co-directed by Dr. Cranfield. Gorilla Doctors employs more than a dozen veterinarians and health experts to provide healthcare in the countries where mountain gorillas live. He was one of the first veterinarians to embrace the One Health concept for great ape conservation. He is a graduate of the University of Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College, and completed a residency program at the Toronto Zoo. He is also a consulting veterinarian for the Maryland Zoo and serves on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University. Part of the One Health Lecture Series. A reception will precede the lecture at 4:30 pm in the Fish Tank Lobby.

Caucus Chaos - Dave Price
7:00 PM – South Ballroom, Memorial Union - Dave Price is political director and weekend news anchor at WHO-TV and author of the new book Caucus Chaos. The year 2012 brought an Iowa Caucus campaign like the country had never seen before. What happened then could have a big impact on how future candidates run, how Iowans choose their favorites and how the country views the results. Price reveals never before told stories from hundreds of conversations with presidential candidates, key staffers and analysts. Price has covered local, state and national politics in Des Moines since 2001, including the past three Iowa caucuses.

The Beginning of Something Big: IT and the Post-Traditional World - Diana Oblinger
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Diana Oblinger is president and CEO of the nonprofit EDUCAUSE, where she works with more than 2,000 institutions to advance higher education through information technology. Oblinger has held many leadership roles in academia and business, including Vice President for Information Resources and the Chief Information Officer for the University of North Carolina system, Executive Director of Higher Education for Microsoft, and IBM Director of the Institute for Academic Technology. She was on the faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia and at Michigan State University and served as the Associate Dean of Academic Programs at the University of Missouri. Oblinger earned all three of her degrees from Iowa State, including a doctorate in cytogenetics. Part of the Women's Leadership Series and Women in STEM Series
