World AIDS Day Event: deepsouth - Documentary Film & Discussion
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - The documentary film deepsouth explores the stigma of HIV/AIDS in the rural American South. The film follows four people directly confronting the region's history, poverty, and now soaring HIV infection rates. Josh, a college student, seeks the support of an underground gay family miles away from his Mississippi Delta hometown. With no funds and few resources, Monica and Tammy try tirelessly to unite reluctant participants at their annual HIV retreat in rural Louisiana. Kathie, an Alabama activist, spends 120 days a year on the road fighting a bureaucracy that continues to ignore the South. A Skype Q&A with directors Lisa Biagiotti and Duy Linh Tu will follow the 70-minute film.

Using Epidemiology to Develop an HIV/AIDS Strategy - Gregorio Millett
8:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Gregorio Millett is vice president and director of public policy at amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, and one of three principal writers of the current administration's National HIV/AIDS Strategy. He is a nationally recognized epidemiologist and researcher who worked previously with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. From 2009 to 2013 he served as a senior policy advisor in the White House Office of National AIDS Policy, where he coordinated research activities as well as the federal interagency process to develop the National AIDS Strategy. He has a Master of Public Health degree with an emphasis in community health education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Part of the World AIDS Awareness Series and the World Affairs Series.

An Appetite for Wonder: The Making of a Scientist - A Conversation with Richard Dawkins
8:00 PM – Stephens Auditorium, Iowa State Center - No tickets required | Doors open at 7:15 | General admission seating Richard Dawkins, evolutionary biologist and secularist, is the Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford. The publication of his book The Selfish Gene in 1976 sparked a revolution in biology and made Dawkins well known beyond his field of study. His most recent book is An Appetite for Wonder: The Making of a Scientist. His many other publications include The Ancestor's Tale, The Blind Watchmaker, Climbing Mount Improbable, Unweaving the Rainbow, and A Devil's Chaplain. He is also the founder of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Science and Reason with the mission to remove the influence of religion in science education and public policy, and eliminate the stigma that surrounds atheism and non-belief. Rudy Francisco - Slam Poetry

He has received numerous awards for his spoken word poetry. In 2009 Francisco was awarded the National Underground Poetry Slam Champion. In 2010 he was named San Diego Grand Slam Champion, San Francisco Grand Slam Champion and the Individual World Poetry Slam Champion. Currently, he serves as the the co-host of the largest poetry venue in San Diego.

Environmental Ethics: A Christian Perspective - Todd Daly
12:10 PM – 127 Curtiss Hall - Todd Daly is faculty at the Urbana Theological Seminary. His writings have appeared in such publications as Ethics & Medicine, The Journal of Evolution and Technology, Christianity Today, and several edited volumes dealing with transhumanist philosophy from a theological perspective. He is currently writing a book dealing with radical life extension entitled Chasing Methuselah. Daly is a graduate of Iowa State, where he earned a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He also holds a masters of divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a doctorate in theology from the University of Edinburgh.

What Just Happened? The 2014 Elections and Beyond - Mara Liasson
7:30 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Mara Liasson is the national political correspondent for National Public Radio and a contributor to the FOX News Channel. Her reports can be heard regularly on NPR's award-winning newsmagazines, All Things Considered and Morning Edition. Liasson also serves as a panelist on the FOX News Sunday weekly public affairs program. During her tenure at NPR, she has been a congressional correspondent; White House correspondent during the Clinton administration; and covered the 1992, 1996 and 2000 presidential elections. Overcoming Prohibition: Efforts to Reform State Cannabis Laws - Dan Linn
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Dan Linn was one of the leading voices for passing the Illinois Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act and the City of Chicago's municipal cannabis decriminalization ordinance. He has worked extensively with lawmakers and activists in Illinois and built a coalition of groups to advocate for changing cannabis policy, offender re-entry programs, and broader drug policy reform. With a grant from the Marijuana Policy Project in 2008 he founded the Illinois Cannabis Patients Association to better represent medical cannabis patients' interests to the Illinois General Assembly. He has been a registered lobbyist and helped the Illinois Senate pass a medical cannabis bill in 2009. Dan Linn is the executive director of the Illinois chapter of NORML and an independent contractor with Greenbridge Corporate Counsel.
