Film and Lecture - Morning Sun: A Psychological History of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution - Carma Hinton
7:00 PM – Gerdin Auditorium - Carma Hinton is a director and producer with the Long Bow Group. Her film is a unique look at the origins and history of the Cultural Revolution (c. 1964-1976), the seminal event of contemporary Chinese experience. By presenting a "daily life history" of the Cultural Revolution and its progress through unique documentary footage, feature films, revolutionary operas, songs and music, and an archive of posters and everyday objects, diaries, correspondence and study notes made by participants in this revolution, the film provides immediate access to an important period of contemporary Chinese history and culture.

U.S. Poet Laureate: - A Reading - Ted Kooser
8:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Ted Kooser is the 13th Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress. The author of 10 collections of poetry, most recently "Delights & Shadows" (2004), he was born in Ames, Iowa. He earned his bachelor's degree at Iowa State University and his master's degree at the University of Nebraska where he is Visiting Professor in the English Department.He is also the author, with his longtime friend Jim Harrison, of Braided Creek: A Conversation in Poetry for which the two poets received the 2003 Award for Poetry from the Society of Midland Authors. .

Countering Agricultural Bioterrorism: - Public Assistance Needed - Marjorie Hoy
7:00 PM – Pioneer Room, Memorial Union - Marjorie Hoy is an expert in the areas of biological control and genetic manipulation of organisms. She is the author of Molecular Genetics, Insect Molecular Genetics and 280 articles. She is Professor and Eminent Scholar at the University of Florida and is also coeditor of Biological Control in Agricultural IPM Systems; Biological Control of Pests by Mites; and Genetics in Relation to Insect Management. Dr. Hoy is also an editorial review member for the following journals: Biocontrol Science and Technology, Biological Control, Theory and Application in Pest Management, Experimental and Applied Acarology, and Environmental Biosafety Research.

The History of the Universe - E.N. Economou
8:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - E.N. Economou is professor of physics at the University of Crete in Greece, has published more than 220 papers in refereed journals, and is the author of seven books including Green's Functions in Quantum Physics and Contemporary Physics. He is also the Director General and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Foundation for Research and Technology in Hellas. This is part of the World Year of Physics celebration sponsored by the Ames Laboratory of the US Department of Energy and Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Living with Dying - James I. Lamb
7:00 PM – Campanile Room, Memorial Union - James I. Lamb is the executive director of Lutherans For Life. He graduated from Mankato State University in 1973 with a B.A. in Biology. He served in the Air Force as an Emergency Medical Technician at the USAF Academy Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, before enrolling at and graduating from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, where he received his Master of Divinity in 1982 and his Doctor of Ministry in 1994.

7:00 PM – Maintenance Shop, Memorial Union - Performers will be presenting pieces from this book which presents brave, unabashed, fun-loving women and their short stories of strength and audacity. After the play, members of the audience are invited to share their own story of "brazen acts." Sponsored by Women's Center.

6:30 PM – Alliant Energy-Lee Liu Auditorium, Howe Hall - Robert W. Lane is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Deere & Company. He was President of John Deere's Worldwide Agricultural Equipment Division, and he served as the company's Chief Financial Officer. He also was President of Deere Credit, Inc., and, over his career, has directed most of John Deere's operations around the world.

Leonardo's Laptop: - Human Needs and the New Computing Technologies - Ben Shneiderman
1:00 PM – Hoover Auditorium - Ben Shneiderman is a professor of Computer Science founding director of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory (http:// www.cs.umd.edu/hcil/), and member of the Institutes for Advanced Computer Studies and for Systems Research, at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a Fellow of the Association for Computing and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received the ACM SIGCHI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
