Looking Forward: How Inexorable is the Environmental Crisis? - David Ehrenfeld
3:00 PM – Pioneer Room, Memorial Union - David Ehrenfeld is Professor of Biology at Rutgers University and the author of several books on conservation. his book, The Arrogance of Humanism, is a critical examination of the adequacy of human control over modern society and its inventions. His novel, The Chameleon Variant, treats the abuse of genetic engineering and its effect on a small Connecticut town. Part of the National Affairs Series: Dreams, Myth and Reality.

The Religious and Philosophical Background of the American Spirit - Sidney Mead
3:00 PM – Pioneer Room, Memorial Union - Dr. Sidney Mead has been described as the "Dean of American Religious History." As one of the foremost authorities on the effect of religion on our history, he has authored numerous books and articles. Since his retirement from the University of Iowa in 1972, he has remained active as a guest professor and lecturer at various colleges and universities. 12:00 PM – Pioneer Room, Memorial Union - The full breadth of American protestant religious experience is examined through a look at some of the 1100 churches of Indianapolis. America's Spirit: Dream, Myth and Reality - Frances Fitzgerald
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Frances Fitzgerald authored the best-selling Fire in the Lake, a comprehensive history of the Vietnam War. In addition, she has done international reporting from "hot spots" around the world. Her most recent book, America Revised, examines the indicts textbooks used in American family, she is featured in the film The Female Line, which also examines the activities of her mother, a former UN ambassador, and her grandmother, a civil rights activist.
