8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Henry Louis Gates is the John Spencer Bassett Professor of English at Duke University. He has fought for broader representation of non-European cultures in university curricula and an emphasis on the contribution of women. His books include Figures in Black: Words, Signs and the "Racial" Self and Black Literature and Literary Theory. He also taught at Harvard and Cornell Universities. 12:00 PM – Pioneer Room, Memorial Union - David Ehrenfeld is a professor of biology at Rutgers University and author of Biological Conservation, Conserving Life on Earth and The Arrogance of Humanism. He is currently working on a new book Losing Knowledge. Dr. Ehrenfeld received his doctorate in zoology from the University of Florida and a medical degree from Harvard. Part of the National Affairs Series.

Education for the People - Jim Hightower
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Jim Hightower was twice elected and served 8 years as Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture where he established international marketing initiatives, agricultural processing projects and farmer cooperatives which especially benefitted Black and Hispanic farmers. He also served as the president of the Texas consumer Association, co-founded the Agribusiness Accountability Project and edited the nationally-respected Texas Observer. His books include Eat Your Heart Out: Food Profiteering in America and Hard Tomatoes, Hard Times a report on America's land grant colleges. Part of the National Affairs Series.
