Women and Leadership - Elizabeth Dole

Stephen's ISU Center - Elizabeth Dole has a long career in public service, holding positions under five administrations, including secretary of transportation under President Ronald Reagan and secretary of labor under President George Bush. She was the first woman to hold the transportation secretary position, and was appointed director of the American Red Cross in 1991. She took a 14-month leave of absence, from November 1995 to January 1997, to accompany her husband, former Sen. Robert Dole, during his presidential campaign. Dole, who has been named by the Gallup Poll as one of the world's most admired women, has received numerous awards for her public service and leadership. They include the Women Executives in State Government Lifetime Achievement Award, the League of Women Voters Leadership Award and the Raoul Wallenberg Award for humanitarian service. 8:00 AM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Sherwood Roland is the Donald Bren Reseach Professor of Chemistry and chair of the department at the University of California , Irvine. He is the first scientist to warn of chlorofluorocarbons released in to the atmosphere depleting the earth's ozone layer. He is also investigating the impact of methane gas.

Carmen Weets worked as associate producer, production coordinator, writer, researcher, and as assistant to producer/director Nora Ephron, director Jesse Nelson and producer Lynda Obst. She has worked with Tom Hanks, Jeff Bridges, Meg Ryan, Whoopie Goldberg, Steve Martin, John Travolta, and Robin Williams on various feature films, and now heads her own new York production company, writing, developing and producing independent films.
Christopher Brock is counsel a Twentieth Century Fox where he handles legal aspects of the creative process. this includes negotiating agreements related to motion picture production, development and marketing concerns involving actors, directors, producers, writers, and rights. Before joining Fox, Chris worked a the law firm of Proaskauer Rose, where he represented entertainment industry clients, including the Walt Disney Company, Time Warner and DC Comics.

He will discuss the beauty of "good bad taste" and the absurdity of censorship in society. His books include ShockValue, Crackpot: The Obsessions of John Waters, Trash, and Director's Cut.
