Challenges in Broadcast Journalism - Carole Simpson
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Carole Simpson is a senior correspondent for ABC News. A television broadcaster for more than 20 years, Carole Simpson anchored ABC's "World News Tonight Sunday"for 15 years, through October 2006, and continues to serve as an Emmy Award-winning senior correspondent for ABC News. Simpson won national praise for her role as the sole moderator for the 1992 presidential candidate "town hall" debate between George Bush and Bill Clinton. She was one of the reporters on the critically acclaimed documentary, "Black and White in America" and anchored three, hour-long ABC News Specials on "The Changing American Family," "Public Schools in America" and "Sex and Violence in the Media." In 1990, Simpson was a member of the "Nightline" team in South Africa and helped anchor ABC's live coverage of the release of Nelson Mandela from his 27-year imprisonment. She also has anchored many major breaking news stories such as the Persian Gulf War, the Tiananmen massacre and the Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill hearings. Mary Louise Smith Chair in Women and Politics

Drugs, Sex and Relationships - Dr. Drew Pinsky
8:00 PM – Stephens Auditorium - Admission Free - Dr. Drew Pinsky, co-host of the MTV advice show, Loveline, is certified internist and addictionalogist. He is also the medical director for the department of chemical dependency services at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., the chief of service in the department of medicine, and the co-author of The Dr. Drew and Adam Book: A Survival Guide to Life and Love. As the co-host of Loveline, now on both radio and MTV, Pinsky dispenses wisdom on drugs, sex and relationships. He began hosting Loveline 15 years ago, long before it became a popular syndicated radio and TV program.

Veishea Opening Ceremony: The ABC's Influence on Modern Computers - John Atanasoff II
12:00 PM – Central Campus - John Atanasoff II, son of the inventor of the first electronic digital computer, is the president, CEO and chairman of Colorado MEDtech, Inc., a provider of advanced medical products and outsourcing services. The original ABC was invented by John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry at Iowa State from 1939-42. An authentic working replica of the Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC), will be on display in Howe Hall during VEISHEA weekend.
