Ethical Implications in Counterterrorism - Jim Olson
8:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Jim Olson is a Senior Lecturer and the CIA Officer in Residence at the Bush School of Government and Public Service in College Station, Texas. He joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1969 and served for 31 years, mostly overseas in clandestine operations. He held the positions as Deputy Chief of Station in Moscow and Chief of Station in Vienna and Mexico City. He also served as Chief of Counterintelligence at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Professor Olson received his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1969. Part of World Affairs Series

Student Environmental Council - The River Cleanup Talk - Chad Pregracke
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Chad Pregracke decided to personally clean and restore the rivers of America beginning with the Mississippi. He started out with his own boat and a love of nature, and ended up spearheading the largest environmental cleanup of its kind. Major corporations sponsor his efforts and hundreds of volunteers join him in his work. AmeriCorp has also begun working with him, supplying volunteers in the fight to save America's rivers and shores. Honored with the 2002 Jefferson Award for the greatest public service for an individual 35-years or younger, he has been featured in Time Magazine and People, and on CNN, MTV and the the TODAY Show.

Mary Louis Smith Chair - Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics - The Road to the White House: Where are the Women? - Patricia Schroeder
7:30 PM – Benton Auditorium, Scheman Building, ISU Center - Patricia Scott Schroeder left Congress undefeated in 1996 after serving in the United States House of Representatives for 24 years. While in Congress, she worked on important legislation for women's health and military families and introduced the Family and Medical Leave Act. Schroeder is one of the few women in a major political party to explore a run for the president, which she considered in 1987. She is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association of American Publishers, a national trade organization of the U.S. book publishing industry. Before assuming her post at AAP, she taught at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. She is also leading New Century/New Solutions, an out-of-the-box think tank, for the Institute for Civil Society in Newton, MA; co-chairs the Democracy Online Project's National Task Force; and serves on the Marguerite Casey Foundation Board of Directors. A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, she graduated from Harvard Law School, one of only 15 women in a class of more than 500.

Freedom Sings! — a First Amendment event - A Multimedia and Musical Celebration of Free Speech
7:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - "Freedom Sings" is a celebration of free speech through music - combining narration, multi-media elements and live musical performances hosted by Ken Paulson, executive director of the First Amendment Center and host of public television's "Speaking Freely." Respected singers and songwriters, including Bill Lloyd and Jonell Mosser, join him on-stage. Through songs and stories, "Freedom Sings" explores the history of music censorship in America from confiscated songs in 1735 to present-day music, including rock 'n' roll, rap and social anthems.

Entomology Graduate Student Organization - Inside Hollywood: A Bugs Perspective - Steven Kutcher
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Steven Kutcher has consulted for more than 70 theatrical films including Aliens, Exorcist and Jurassic Park.. He has appeared on numerous TV shows like "The Tonight Show," "Late Night With David Letterman," and "The Garry Shandling Show." He is an Entomology Instructor at Long Beach State University.
