Sigma Xi - Sea Level Rise and Ancient Maya Civilization - Heather McKillop
7:00 PM – Campanile Roo, Memorial Union - Heather McKillop is in the Geography and Anthropology Department at Louisiana State University, with major areas of research interests in ancient Maya trade and economy, especially Maya sea trade. She has ongoing field and lab projects on the south coast and offshore cays of Belize, and is the author of Salt, White Gold of the Ancient Maya and the coeditor of Coastal Maya Trade. She received her doctorate in anthropology from University of California, Santa Barbara.

7:45 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Watch Senator John Edwards and Vice President Dick Cheney on the big screen for 90 exciting minutes of political debate! Dianne Bystrom, director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics, will provide opening comments and lead the discussion following the showing of the televised debate broadcast live from the campus of Case Western Reserve University. Student organizations will host tables providing election and campaign information and voter registration opportunity.

6:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Lyle H. Schwartz is retired director of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, where he guided the management of the entire basic research investment for the U.S. Air Force. He will examine key issues such as stem cell research, global warming, and federal funding for research and development. He will also discuss growing concerns about the politicization of science policy. (Nobel Laureate Peter Agre will not be able to join us.)

Women's Week 2004 - The Spirit of Harriet Tubman - Leslie McCurdy
8:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - This one-woman play, written and performed by Leslie McCurdy, recreates the life of Harriet Tubman from her earliest experiences as a slave through her work on the Underground Railroad to her later years. Called "brilliant," "mesmerizing," "a performance beyond belief," this inspirational portrayal, now touring internationally, is favored by the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute.

Super Size Me! - Morgan Spurlock
8:00 PM – Great Hall, Memorial Union - Morgan Spurlock is an award-winning writer, director and producer whose documentary "Super Size Me" explores the obesity epidemic that plagues America today and has been described as the "Bowling for Columbine" for fast food. During the making of the film, Spurlock subjected himself to a 30-day "McDonald's Only" diet to document the impact on his health. He also traveled to 20 cities across America, interviewing people on the street, health experts and a lobbyist for the fast-food industry. He was honored with the Best Director award in Documentary Competition at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.

Science and Society - When Science, Politics and Foreign Policy Collide - Norman P. Neureiter
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Norman P. Neureiter is the Director of the AAAS's (American Association for the Advancement of Science AAAS) Center for Science, Technology and Security Policy. Formerly he was the Science and Technology Policy Advisor to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Colin L. Powell. He has extensive experience in private industry and government including serving as Vice President of Texas Instrument Asia, International Affairs Assistant in the White House Office of Science and Technology, and as the first U.S. Science Attache in Eastern Europe. He has a doctorate in organic chemistry from Northwestern University.

Detainees in Baghdad - Maxine Nash
7:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Maxine Nash is a member of a Christian Peacemaking Team in Baghdad where she is working with detainees to ensure their rights as prisoners of war. Her work has focused on the detainees held previously by the Coalition Provisional Authority and now by the U.S. Military. She has also worked with the Christian Peacemaking Team in Palestine, and was director of World Ministries for Friends United Meeting, a Quaker church organization headquartered in Richmond, Indiana. Maxine is a native of Waukon, Iowa.

Msgr. Supple Lecture - What Is Holy? Expanding the Horizons of the Holy - Elizabeth A. Dreyer
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Elizabeth A. Dreyer is the author of Earth Crammed With Heaven: A Spirituality of Everyday Life; The Cross in Christian Tradition: From Paul to Bonaventure; Passionate Women: Two Medieval Mystics; and Manifestations of Grace. She is a professor in the Department of Religious Studies, Fairfield University. She earned a doctorate in historical theology at Marquette University.
