Technology, Globalization and Culture Series - Sustainability, Fair-Trade, and Conservation Through Global Market Mechanisms - Can It Be Done?
7:00 PM – Howe Hall - Pierre Ferrari is the President of Lang International, a consulting firm that specializes in associative marketing. From 1995-97 he was the special assistant to the President of CARE, the world's largest private relief and development agency. Prior to that role, he acted as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Executive Committee member at Coca-Cola USA. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream, Inc. He is one of the founders of TeamX, a clothing company with a social conscious. He holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge and a MBA from Harvard Business School. His current interests include studying and consulting in the field of Conscientious Commerce, with a particular focus on creating and nurturing the internal conditions that lead to enhanced socially responsible behavior among businesses.

Institute on National Affairs - Politics and Humor - The Comedy of the Daily Show - Rob Corddry
8:00 PM – Stephens Auditorium, ISU Center - ADMISSION FREE - Rob Corddry is a correspondent for Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His political reporting antics have been the highlight of the Emmy- Award winning show. He will bring clips of the show and talk about the process of reporting on the best "fake" news show on television. Following his presentation, he will be signing copies of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction in the Celebrity Cafe.

Celebrate Black History Month - A Deeper Truth: Revelations of the Soul - Ako Abdul- Samad
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Ako Abdul-Samad is the founder and CEO of Creative Visions Human Development Center, and was elected to the Des Moines School Board in 2003. He has served as Vice President of the Islamic Center of Des Moines, Coordinator for Urban Dreams, and as a counselor in the Iowa prison system. Abdul-Samad has lectured and counseled internationally on community development, service to at-risk youth, and substance abuse prevention and crisis intervention. Abdul-Samad is a member of the board of directors of the National Conference for Community and Justice, Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium, Directors Counsel of Des Moines, African American Leadership Coalition, Senator Charles Grassley's "Face It Together,"Concerned Citizens for Justice and Bridges of Iowa. He is the author of A Deeper Truth: Revelations of the Soul.
Unconstitutional: - The War On Our Civil Liberties
8:00 PM – Gallery, Memorial Union - Unconstitutional investigates the impact of the Patriot Act on the civil liberties of American citizens and immigrants. It is also the only movie to ever be endorsed by the ACLU. Director De la Peña has four feature length documentaries to her credit, including the critically acclaimed The Jaundiced Eye, and was part of the team that created HBO's Death on the Job, which was nominated for an Academy Award.

Spring 2005 Presidential University Lecture - Do the Eyes Have It? The Mistaken Eyewitness - Gary L. Wells
8:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Gary L. Wells is Distinguished Professor of Psychology, and internationally recognized for his studies of eyewitness memory. His work on the reliability of eyewitness identification has been funded by the National Science Foundation, and his findings incorporated into textbooks in psychology and law. He has served as an expert for the defense, prosecution, and plaintiffs in criminal and civil cases across the U.S. and Canada. He was a founding member of the U.S. Department of Justice group that developed the first set of national guidelines for eyewitness evidence. He co-chaired the panel that wrote the Justice Department training manual for law enforcement on the collection and preservation of eyewitness identification evidence, which has been distributed to every law enforcement agency in the U.S. Wells has worked with prosecutors and police to reform the way they conduct police lineups. 7-8 p.m. A reception and poster display in the South Ballroom will precede the lecture.

Trade and Economic Issues in the - Second Bush Administration
7:00 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Arne Hallam, chair and professor in the Economics Department, will moderate this panel discussion by ISU faculty: Peter F. Orazem is University Professor of Economics and Director of the Industrial Relations Program at Iowa State, and currently Koch Visiting Professor of Business Economics at the University of Kansas; John C. Beghin is Professor and Marlin Cole Chair in the Economics Department, director of the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute and the head of the Trade and Agricultural Policy Division at CARD with research focusing on agricultural trade policy; David Frankel is an Associate Professor of Economics and an applied economic theorist with interests in social problems and urban economics; and Balmurli Natrajan is assistant professor Anthropology with teaching and research covering different aspects of globalization. John Donaghy is director of campus ministry at St. Thomas Aquinas Church and Catholic Student Center. His areas of ministry and research include social justice and religious and philosophical ethics.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday Celebration - The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till: Film and Lecture - Keith Beauchamp
7:30 PM – Sun Room, Memorial Union - Keith Beauchamp is a filmmaker whose documentary on the murder of Emmett Till was recently featured on "60 Minutes." He traveled extensively between New York and Mississippi to reinvestigate the murder and subsequent trial, locating witnesses who had never before spoken about the case. On May 10th, 2004, the U.S. Department of Justice re-opened this 50 year-old murder case citing Beauchamp's documentary "The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till" as a major factor in their decision as well as the starting point for their investigation. Keith Beauchamp will provide opening remarks and lead a discussion following the showing of the 70-minute documentary.
