Sara Benincasa is a comedian, mental health advocate and author of Agorafabulous! Dispatches from My Bedroom. With courage and humor, she shares her experience overcoming mental illness as a young adult, coping with panic attacks, and navigating the highs and lows of college life. Benincasa's eclectic background includes work as an Americorps teacher, janitor, legal assistant, bathtub talk show host, and citizen journalist for MTV News covering the 2008 presidential election. Her memoir, Agorafabulous, is currently being adapted as a television series with Oscar winner Diablo Cody. Mental Health ExpoA resource fair with local mental health and substance abuse professionals will be held in the adjoining South Ballroom beginning at 6:00pm.

Sara Benincasa's latest book is Real Artists Have Day Jobs (And Other Awesome Things They Don't Teach You in School). She's also the author of Tim Kaine is Your Nice Dad, DC Trip, and Great. She is currently adapting DC Trip as a film with producers Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa (Little Miss Sunshine, Nebraska, Election). Recent screen roles include "The Jim Gaffigan Show" and the critically acclaimed short film "The Focus Group" (2016) which she also wrote.
She has a degree in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College and an MA in Secondary School Education from Teachers College at Columbia University.

Stay for the entire event, including the brief question-and-answer session that follows the formal presentation. Most events run 75 minutes.
Sign-ins are after the event concludes. For lectures in the Memorial Union, go to the information desk in the Main Lounge. In other academic buildings, look for signage outside the auditorium.
Lecture Etiquette
- Stay for the entire lecture and the brief audience Q&A. If a student needs to leave early, he or she should sit near the back and exit discreetly.
- Do not bring food or uncovered drinks into the lecture.
- Check with Lectures staff before taking photographs or recording any portion of the event. There are often restrictions. Cell phones, tablets and laptops may be used to take notes or for class assignments.
- Keep questions or comments brief and concise to allow as many as possible.
