Eric Holt-Gimenez is the executive director of the Institute for Food and Development Policy, better known as Food First. The organization was founded in 1975 by Joseph Collins and Frances Moore Lappe and promotes access to healthy, ecologically produced, and culturally appropriate food. Holt-Gimenez worked for more than two decades with small-scale farmers in Mexico and Central America and prior to joining Food First served as the Latin America Program Manager for the Bank Information Center in Washington DC. He is the coauthor of Food Rebellions! Crisis and the Hunger for Justice with Raj Patel and Annie Shattuck and editor of Food Movements Unite! Strategies to Transform Our Food Systems. He has an MSc in international agricultural development from University of California at Davis and a PhD in environmental studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
