Sig Cornelius is Senior Vice President for Planning, Strategy and Corporate Affairs at ConocoPhillips. A native of Iowa and an Iowa State alum (BA 1976), he joined Conoco in 1980 in the natural gas and gas processing organization. Since then he has held numerous positions in the midstream, upstream, and finance organizations, including president of Conoco Canada Ltd., president of Dubai Petroleum Company, and president of Global Gas. The discussion will be moderated by David Yepsen, chief political correspondent for The Des Moines Register. Part of the Engineering Thematic Year on Energy and Sustainability.

Biography
Sig Cornelius joined Conoco in 1980 in the natural gas and gas processing organization. Since then he has held numerous positions in the midstream, upstream, and finance organizations-including, but not limited to, president, Conoco Canada Ltd.; president, Dubai Petroleum Company; treasurer, Conoco; vice president, Upstream Business Development; president, Global Gas; and president, Lower 48 E & P.

Cornelius currently serves on the board of the Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC, DCP Midstream, DCP Midstream Partners, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Council of the Americas, and the Management Committee for the Foster Creek Christina Lake Heavy Oil joint venture with Encana. Additionally, he is a member of the board
for the Theatre Under The Stars and the Yellowstone Park Foundation.

A native of Iowa, Cornelius graduated with a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in 1976, and earned master of science degrees in management from both Purdue University and Stanford University.

  • Stay for the entire lecture and the brief audience Q&A. If a student needs to leave early, he or she should sit near the back and exit discreetly.
  • Do not bring food or uncovered drinks into the lecture.
  • Check with Lectures staff before taking photographs or recording any portion of the event. There are often restrictions. Cell phones, tablets and laptops may be used to take notes or for class assignments.
  • Keep questions or comments brief and concise to allow as many as possible.
